Sydney Mccowan Certified Instructor of Mat Pilates, Reformer Pilates and Yoga

Sydney McCowan is a deeply dedicated instructor who understands physical pain, biomechanics, and trauma in the body. She started her Pilates journey in the early 2000s during her recovery from radiation therapy, using Pilates and yoga to rehabilitate from a motor vehicle incident, shoulder dislocation, and foot injury. 

 

With over 15 years of experience, Sydney became a comprehensive certified instructor in Stott Pilates, Balance Mat, and Reformer. She has furthered her education in Stott Zenga, Booty Barre, Stott Pilates for Breast Cancer, and Chronic Pain Yoga, and is also a certified 500 RYT yoga instructor.

 

Sydney has worked with various clients as a physiotherapy assistant, including professional athletes and those covered by ICBC or WCB claims. She trained under master instructor Jaqueline Martin, who studied under Jay Grimes, a student of Joseph Pilates. Committed to ongoing learning, she is currently exploring the NeuroMovement method. 

 

In her role at the Vancouver Island Health Authority, she focuses on mental health and substance use. Outside of teaching, Sydney enjoys time on her farm, gardening, taking dance classes, and caring for her dogs.
